I picked Tandoori Kona after asking around for a good Indian restaurant in Richmond. We had a party of 5 and had no problem finding parking for everyone in the plaza outside, which in Richmond can be difficult. The restaurant didnt look like much on the outside, but the décor inside was done quite nicely and professionally. Service was fantastic, even though there was only one or two waitresses for a packed house on a weekday early afternoon. We ordered some appetizers to share. They were out of vegetable pakora, which was really disappointing as that is one of my favourite Indian appetizers, but the chicken pakora was done well. I ordered the lunch special, which included naan bread (for the table), a small salad (really just two big pieces of lettuce and tomato), rice pilaf, some side dipping dishes, and their famous butter chicken - all on a metal tray. It was nothing terribly special, but the portions were big and the flavour was solid. Butter chicken was above average. I wish they would do away with the metal tray though, as it made me feel like I was at a cafeteria. One of my friends ordered their special biryani and said it was awesome, so maybe I should have gotten that instead. I would come back here for another quick lunch, especially if I was nearby and didnt want to drive far for Indian food. However, my experience was not one that will make a lasting impression in my memory.
